You’re invited to DPC’s annual celebration of disability rights – which has been renamed the John Winske Memorial Awards!

About this event:

The Disability Policy Consortium (DPC) is Massachusetts’ leading advocacy organization fighting for the rights and interests of people with disabilities. From defending the rights of people with disabilities to access prescription drugs and PCA services, to quadrupling the state’s annual investment in housing for low-income people with disabilities, to leading the charge against life-threatening medical discrimination during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have done everything we can to defend and expand the rights, independence, and safety of people with disabilities across our commonwealth. Every year, we come together to honor those who have gone above and beyond in service to the disability community.

This year, however, we will also be honoring someone who truly exemplified that ideal: our former Executive Director and Board Chair John Winske, who tragically passed just days after last year’s event. John coined the credo that animates DPC’s work — About Us, By Us, the belief that when decisions are made about people with disabilities, people with disabilities must be the ones making them. Under his leadership, we more than tripled the size of our organization, and became the only disability-led organization in the country to be awarded a Medicaid Ombudsman contract.

Please join us to celebrate John’s legacy and honor those who have demonstrated the values of independence, compassion, and tenacity that he exemplified. With your help, DPC can continue to champion disability rights for years to come.

ASL & CART accommodation services will be available.

Join our virtual annual awards event and celebrate champions of disability rights. Your support of DPC’s work is profoundly appreciated. Please select the ticket type that is right for you. All tickets at the Power Broker Level & higher include tickets to a virtual cocktail hour before the event.

Logo Image alt text: a colorful illustration of a group of ten people walking up a green ramp. They are of a variety of gender presentations and skin tones, and have various disabilities, including some using wheelchairs, arm crutches, white canes, guide dogs, and prostheses. At the top of the ramp are a group of ten colored silhouettes in front of an illustration of the Massachusetts state house. One silhouette has crutches, and two are in wheelchairs. One of the wheelchair silhouettes is holding up a sign reading “ABOUT US BY US.” On the green ramp the words “ RESEARCH → ADVOCACY → ACCESS” are written in white. Below the ramp, the words “DISABILITY POLICY CONSORTIUM” are written in black, with D P and C in gold.
