You’re invited to DPC’s annual celebration of disability rights – which has been renamed the John Winske Memorial Awards!
About this event:
The Disability Policy Consortium (DPC) is Massachusetts’ leading advocacy organization fighting for the rights and interests of people with disabilities. From defending the rights of people with disabilities to access prescription drugs and PCA services, to quadrupling the state’s annual investment in housing for low-income people with disabilities, to leading the charge against life-threatening medical discrimination during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have done everything we can to defend and expand the rights, independence, and safety of people with disabilities across our commonwealth. Every year, we come together to honor those who have gone above and beyond in service to the disability community.
This year, however, we will also be honoring someone who truly exemplified that ideal: our former Executive Director and Board Chair John Winske, who tragically passed just days after last year’s event. John coined the credo that animates DPC’s work — About Us, By Us, the belief that when decisions are made about people with disabilities, people with disabilities must be the ones making them. Under his leadership, we more than tripled the size of our organization, and became the only disability-led organization in the country to be awarded a Medicaid Ombudsman contract.
Please join us to celebrate John’s legacy and honor those who have demonstrated the values of independence, compassion, and tenacity that he exemplified. With your help, DPC can continue to champion disability rights for years to come.
