The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

Individuals with disabilities are guaranteed equal opportunity through the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) which mandates accessibility of programs and facilities in every city and town, big and small. Enacted in 1990, the ADA requires local governments to evaluate for accessibility all of their public buildings and parks, as well as programs, services and activities.

Equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities – in public accommodations, transportation, state and local government services, employment, and telecommunications – is a guaranteed civil right.

Accessibility Plans

Center for Living & Working works with cities, towns, business and individuals to identify access barriers and work to resolve those barriers so all individuals regardless of ability type have equal access.

This evaluation includes a Self-Study. If the Self-Study reveals structural barriers, the Act requires preparation of a Transition Plan, which will be included, indicating how and when access will be attained.
